Tomorrow! Decolonize the parade!

We will be gathering at 12:30PM SHARP (Sunday, October 11th) outside the Blue Line Aquarium Station. PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARRIVE AFTER 12:45 WE MAY ALREADY HAVE LEFT TO POSITION OURSELVES IN THE PARADE. It is going to be jam packed and we want to make sure we can be visible, so timeliness is key.

To celebrate Columbus’ legacy is to celebrate white supremacy, racism, patriarchy and violent colonial capitalism. It is immoral, and we will not sit by and smile and wave flags, or sit at home and complain about it. We will act to change the narrative and add our voices to the decades old fight to abolish “Columbus Day” and celebrate Indigenous People’s Day instead.

If you can, bring a sign with one of the following messages, or one like it, so we can be consistent in tone:
“Celebrate Indigenous People’s Day”
“Abolish Columbus Day”
“Colonization = Indigenous Genocide.”
“Columbus was a Murderer, not a Hero.”

This is NOT a protest of italian heritage — this is very specifically a protest of celebrating the legacy of Christopher Columbus and colonialism.

ACTION AGREEMENT: This action is entirely non-violent. Please respect other people and physical space / property. If you are yelled at, spit on, etc. please do not engage, as you will likely escalate the situation and cause greater suffering to yourself and others.

BACKGROUND: This action is being organized by a group of non-Indigenous allies associated with Flood Boston / Flood the System.

Yes, we are aware this is the same day as Honk. As much as we love Honk, we think it is more important to protest and decolonize this highly problematic parade than to parade through Somerville and Cambridge.
