Occupy Boston stands in solidarity with Knockout Barstool. We are appalled by Barstool’s degradation of women, perpetuation of rape culture and the willful harassment of activists. We fully support any efforts that aim to stop Boston’s universities collaborating with this organization and we commit to working within Knockout Barstool’s framework of action. Barstool exploits people through oppression and perpetuation of rape culture in order to make a profit. They put profits over people.
Join Knockout Barstool for a march and rally today at 6:30 PM, beginning in the Freshman Quad of the Northeastern Campus and ending at the House of Blues, where a Barstool Blackout Party is being held. See details for the march and rally here: http://www.facebook.com/events/102054269918424/.

You really should put out an error correction notice making your opposition clear. Right now, your paragraph’s second sentence has *Barstool* being the entity which degrades women, perpetuates the rape culture, and willfully harasses activists. It is, of course, Barstool which *opposes* these things, or you wouldn’t be in solidarity with them. Do fix this – and keep up your good work!

Whoops! I was confused by your confusion! It’s your *first* sentence that needs to be fixed, since you’re *opposed* to Knockout Barstool, not in solidarity with them. A fix is required, please.
To clarify: Barstool Sports is the entity which degrades women, and OB is opposed to Barstool Sports and their event, the Barstool Blackout Party. Knockout Barstool is a grassroots reaction to the Blackout party, the intent of which is to protest the party and those who support it. OB supports and stands in solidarity with Knockout Barstool, against Barstool Sports.

So basically, it’s ok for OB to Protest and exercise freedom of speech. When it comes to a business that actually contributes to the economy BTW, it’s not ok for them exercise this same right? I’m not at all confused by this movement. The fact of the matter here seems to be that since you guys basically failed at your initial movement and are now gunslinging protesters, that you are just going to attack entities that have nothing to do with the change that you are going for? How about you guys find some real issues and attack them? Organize yourselves better and use the system in front of you before you argue and bash the very system that you are a part of. Everyone deserves a voice and so do you, however, how about really looking at what the issues are and organize better and attack the proper issues. Attacking some Entertainment business, where let’s be honest, is a blog site for entertainment that sells will get you nowhere. But since you people think you are making a change I’m sure my words will only ignite more of that passion for a change that you nothing about. The US is the greatest nation in the world for a reason and that’s because our leaders have done some right for the people. Mistakes have happened, politicians have blatantly attacked your so called 99%. At the end of day, that other 1% are a part of this nation as well. The 1% the stimulates a higher percentage of the economy than the other 99%. The 1% the provide jobs and security and opportunity to the other 99%. The 1% that also has a bunch selfish people working for it. The system is not flawed, it’s the people within the system which includes all of us. We are all responsible for the irresponsible behavior of our supposed capitalism. Maybe you decided to go to college and for what? Maybe college wasn’t for you. Maybe the best thing that kid could have become is a grocery bagger making his minimum wage. Maybe the reason the 1% get richer is because most of them have devoted years of endless hours to be very good at what they do. We are talking opportunity cost. What can you do that’s marketable? Positive? Stimulating? It’s not about what you do, it’s about how well you do it! If I’m better at doing something than you are why should you still get the opportunity over me? Honestly, I really do support OB and the general OWS movement, but Barstool is probably one of the last things anyone should be worried about and, more importantly, I’m worried that constant branching out to more frivolous and relatively innocuous (relative to the core issues of what OWS supposedly stands for) issues such as Barstool detract heavily from the movement and give easy fodder to all the OWS/OB critics.
If people associated with OB also want to participate in KO Barstool, by all means do. But, as a favor to myself and probably several other concerned citizens, I ask that the GA please do not lump in OB as a whole with KO Barstool and weaken the cause

Yeah, this is the first I’ve heard of it. Barstool looks to be a sleazy ezine that throws parties for college kids; Knockout appears to be a reaction to Northeastern associating itself with the organization, whose contributors seem to be able to write anti-woman or pro-rape content without repercussions. Blackout parties are parties where the only lights are blacklights.

i backed you guys for a long time occupy boston. always trying to get the point across to those who didnt understand what you were doing. id have your back 100 times out of a 100 times. but you officially lost me here. now focusing your attention on a local blog that some guy writes when you used to have such big goals and direction. i assume this has to do with some occupy members also being members of knockout barstool. just because some members overlap, does not make it one issue. i guess the movement is over. best of luck with future endeavors

I saw this happen first hand. You decided to march down Landsdown and were attacked by the crowd of waiting Barstoolers. I’m glad your signs were ripped and you were run out. You’re a burden on the city and everyone else. Grow up.
If the Occupy movement lets its focus drift to gender grievances and other forms of identity politics as embodied by “Knockout Barstool,” you will suffer the same fate as all post-WW II “progressive” movements: co-option by one-issue factions (like the radical feminists behind this) and eventual marginalization.
Most members of the “99%” as you characterize it do not care about issues like the “perpetuation of rape culture.” In other words, they think it’s linguistic-academic b.s. FACT.
Focus on economic equality, and you have a shot a winning broader support. Focus on fringe issues like this one, and you’ll lose many more friends than you make.
Oh, and I’m sure Barstool really minds all the free publicity!

OB is now doing actions against Barstool sports? Irrespective of the legitimacy of this issue, the fact that OB and its GA is spending energy on marginal matters such as this is evidence that it has lost its focus. It was once such a promising movement. What a shame.
