The following proposal was consented to by Occupy Boston’s General Assembly on Thursday, October 20:
Occupy Boston stands in solidarity with the Occupy the Hood rally taking place at 6pm on October 21 in Dudley Square Plaza. Occupy Boston will activate our solidarity by sending volunteers to appropriately assist and support the initiative with excitement, RESPECT, and HUMILITY. We hope to see Occupy the Hood grow into an inclusive and democratic step towards unifying ALL the 99%. We recognize that our support for initiatives like this one is part of a process of listening to, learning from, and deepening our connections to many more local community organizations.
Direct Action is organizing groups to go from Dewey Square to Dudley Square at 5pm on Friday, October 21.

While you’re “listening” and “learning” don’t forget that you’re not sitting at the feet of geniuses, but of ordinary people who have had experiences that you have not had to live with daily.
Remember, the Hood just might have something to learn from you guys as well. And, please, you insult yourselves by capitalizing RESPECT and HUMILITY. Don’t use this Occupy the Hood as a way to expunge your WHITE GUILT. Statements of support like this are rife with bowing and scraping and almost begging the black man to exonerate you.
Either we come together as equals in this world or we are destined to put everything alien to us in the trash or–just as worse–on a pedestal.
Can you imagine these kids daring to be anything but RESPECTFUL and HUMBLE in Dudley square? One thing you can do if you want to be un-respectful and un-humble is go around the Dudley bus station reporting everyone for smoking and documenting the police inaction and the MBTA personnel smoking. I will do that some day.
I’d hope they’d be HUMBLE and RESPECTFUL regardless of where they are, where they’re going or what they’re doing. The fact that they have to state this is admitting to their less than egalitarian impulses. Those who actually live according to the dictates of their better nature don’t have to be so guarded.
