AFL-CIO Offers its Full Support for Occupy Boston

    RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF
THE “OCCUPY WALL ST./ BOSTON MOVEMENT

THE MASSACHUSETTS AFL-CIO OFFERS ITS FULL SUPPORT TO THE OCCUPT WALL ST./OCCUPY BOSTON MOVEMENT.

THE CONCENTRATION OF WEALTH IN THE UNITED STATES THREATENS OUR HOMES, OUR EDUCATION, OUR STATES AND CITIES AND TOWNS. THE WALL ST. BANKS AND THE LARGEST CORPORATIONS REFUSE TO PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE OF TAXES WHILE OUR INFRASTRUCTURE CRUMBLES. THEY SIT ON RECORD PROFITS WHILE THE REST OF THE COUNTRY SUFFERS, AND THEY STILL REFUSE TO PUT PEOPLE BACK TO WORK. DECENT, FAMILY SUPPORTING JOBS ARE BECOMING A THING OF THE PAST AS CORPORATIONS CUT WAGES, PENSIONS, AND HEALTH CARE BENEFITS AND EVEN OUR RIGHT TO COLLECTIVELY BARGAIN—OUR VOICE ON THE JOB.

WE SALUTE THOSE WHO HAVE TAKEN THESE ISSUES TO THE STREETS AND TO THE PUBLIC CONSCIOUSNESS IN THE OCCUPATION OF
WALL ST. AND NOW BOSTON. YOU SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER—AND YOU SPEAK FOR THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS.

WE JOIN THE OCCUPY WALL ST. MOVEMENT IN THE COMMON FIGHT TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK FROM THE THOSE WHO LIVE OFF OUR LABOR. WE URGE ALL OUR AFFILIATED LOCAL UNIONS TO HELP PARTICIPATE AND HELP OUT IN ANY WAY THAT THEY CAN.

    WE, TOO, ARE THE 99%!

    Northeastern Students Stand in Solidarity

Approximately 50 Northeastern University students came to Dewey Square today to show their support for Occupy Boston by demonstrating with the occupiers. The students—who marched from Northeastern’s Centennial Common—stood in the middle of Atlantic Avenue, right in front of Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, and obstructed traffic in a stand of solidarity with the nation-wide Occupy Movement after they voted to do so using a process of direct democracy.

Nurses Call for Tax on Wall Street to Heal America

Nurses, who every day care for the casualties of the economic crisis driven by Wall Street greed, plan to hold a rally in Dewey Square at the site of the Occupy Boston Protest, to show their support for the movement and to highlight the Massachusetts Nurses Association/National Nurses United’s “Main Street Contract” campaign for a tax on Wall Street financial speculation to provide revenue for Main Street reforms, including jobs at living wages, quality education, guaranteed health care for all, and freedom from hunger, homelessness, and retirement insecurity.

The action is part of the opening day activities of the Massachusetts Nurses Association/National Nurses United 2011 Convention (October 5-7), being held at the Boston Marriott in Newton.  Hundreds of nurses from all corners of the Commonwealth will board buses at the event and head to the rally at 3 pm
